Frederic, Dhooghe and Inamoto look to earn a spot on U.S. National Junior Team
MADISON, Wis. –  A Wisconsin men's hockey player may have the opportunity to don the Stars and Stripes at the 2018 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championship, as three Badgers have been invited to the U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan, on July 29 - Aug. 5.
Among the 42 invited players are Wisconsin sophomore Trent Frederic, as well as incoming freshmen Tyler Inamoto and Sean Dhooghe.
The event features 12 games between the United States, Canada, Finland and Sweden, serving as an evaluation tool to select the roster to participate in the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship on Dec. 6, 2017 - Jan. 5, 2018 in Buffalo, New York.
Frederic, the 2017 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, has plenty of experience playing for his country, most recently scoring four goals and seven points to help the U.S. win bronze at the 2016 IIHF Under-18 World Championship. He competed at the 2015 U-18 Five Nations Tournament, winning a gold medal, and also participated in the 2014 U-17 World Hockey Challenge. In his first year as a Badger, the St. Louis native scored 33 points off of 15 goals and 18 assists, earning a spot on the All-Big Ten second team.
Dhooghe, hailing from Aurora, Illinois, played the past two seasons for the U.S. National Team Development Program, putting up 14 goals and 13 assists during his 2015-16 season with the Under-18 National Team. He scored three goals and four points at the 2015 U-17 Four Nations Tournament and competed at the 2015 U-17 World Hockey Challenge, potting three goals.
Inamoto played alongside Dhooghe on the Under-18 National Team, scoring two goals and adding nine helpers from the blue line. The Barrington, Illinois, native won gold at both the 2016 and 2017 Under-18 Five Nations Tournaments, as well as playing in the 2016 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament.
Dhooghe, Frederic and Inamoto aim to help the United States medal in its third-straight IIHF World Junior Championship after Team USA won bronze in 2016 and earned gold behind captain and former Badger Luke Kunin in 2017.
