Happy Friday Badger Fans!
Well, we did it.
Last weekend the Badgers captured their third-straight WCHA tournament title in Minneapolis.
The team defeated North Dakota (2-1) in the semi-final match and Duluth (4-1) in the championship. Thanks to some stellar performances by Annie Pankowski, Sydney McKibbon, Emily Clark, and SportsCenter Top 10 superstar Sarah Nurse, the Cardinal and White prevailed.
Helmets, sticks, and gloves were sent flying in the air as the buzzer sounded and we brought Wilma the WCHA trophy back to Madtown.
"It was awesome to be a part of something like this," freshman Presley Norby reflected. "I had heard about how fun it had been last year to achieve that title, and it certainly was!"
The Badgers plan on taking this momentum into this weekend for the big NCAA quarterfinal battle against Robert Morris. LaBahn Arena is decorated with blue banners, instilling excitement within the girls, our hearts and minds narrowed in on the ideal ultimate victory at the end of this journey.
"I think everyone is radiating positivity, which is awesome," senior Mikayla Johnson stated. "We're ready to go out there and play our game--the style of game we've played all year. We know what we are capable of, and I think if we stick to that, we'll be successful!"
For the seniors, like Mikayla, this is the last game they will be playing in LaBahn in front of the greatest fans in the world.
"We are trying not to think about it too much," captain Sydney McKibbon said.
On behalf of the rest of the team, we thank you seniors for leading us in the best possible way this year. This team is the way it is because of you guys. We are eager to go out there and play for you all!
The puck drops Saturday at 2:00 p.m. We hope to see you all there!
On Wisconsin!
