Head Coach Jonathon Tsipsis
Opening Statement: "I'm just really proud of our group. I think two things that we've looked at all year was how can we be better defensively and how can we be better on the backboards, and I thought that how we felt with our man-to-man after Saturday, how could we rebuild things and the first thing was to be able to compete, and that's what we did on Monday in practice.

"I thought going into the game, we looked at a lot of different people on Jess Shepard, Marsha (Howard), and Avy (Young). Avy got a little bit more work in the first half then maybe she was expecting with Marsha and Malayna (Johnson) getting two fouls and Cayla (McMorris) getting her second.

"I think just the activity level defensively and then to be able to rebound to get us a chance to get to the free-throw line, to get out and transition, get higher percentage shots, and I think you saw that in the first half that got us the lead.

"I thought Courtney's (Fredrickson) aggressiveness was really, really key on putting the ball on the ground. The three to end the first half is something that can be deflating and I thought our group did a really good job to start the second half, not just because we went 6-0 and forced them to call a timeout, but just an attack mentality. Anytime we felt like Nebraska made a run in the second half, we came down and got a really good shot and as I talk to the group, I was really proud.

"There's a stretch when Cayla got a really good look at a three, (it) didn't go down, got a good look out of an out-of-bounds play, didn't go down and then drove it. I think that maturity started in the second half when Cayla was the one to get a lot of contact and was able to get it to drop in. But I think everybody fed off of Avy's activity level on the glass.

"But everybody that guarded, I'd be remise if I didn't mention Malayna Johnson as well guarding Jess Shepard, I thought just worked and I thought our guards did a good job of trying to make it hard for her to see, whether it was help-side or on the ball.

"With having five in double figures, two double-doubles, 17 assists to 15 turnovers and out-rebounding someone by 25, you're going to put yourself in a position to be better. As we've talked about, this isn't just trying to get a win, this is our group trying to get better and that's what we felt like. Coach (Craig) Carter got the brunt of it playing Jess Shepard in practice the past two days, but they had just a great confidence about it and I'm very, very proud of them as I am every day when I walk in there at practice and we're looking forward to move forward with this."

On staying in man defense all game: "We felt like we could help better on Jess Shepherd out of the man. We had to get our changing defense ready for Nebraska. There are some fantastic drivers on Nebraska's team. Man would allow us to help more. It's hard to guard Jess though because she can score from inside and out.

"I felt like our man had an amazing amount of energy. It didn't even change when we subbed. Even the guards coming in kept up the energy. The energy let us get on the boards, which we knew we could do.

"I just felt like they were really in tuned with seeing what Nebraska was doing on the offensive side. I think we forced low percentage shots early on. I think our kids saw that and we kept things clean. I felt like Jess Shepherd had to earn all six baskets that she made. Part of that is the team taking it on themselves to guard her to the best of their ability. We really felt like man gave us the best chances and the opportunity to be on the glass. We tried to make them shoot as many low percentage shots as possible."

On shutting down their runs throughout the game: "There were two plays in the second half that were key. One of them was off a three to Suzanne (Gilreath), which was the right shot. Then right after that, we got a stop and came down for a beautiful dribble-fade play. Everybody was working.

"I thought we stayed in attack mode. We didn't allow them to get to the rim or the free-throw line. Our transition game was really good too. I think you could see our group gaining confidence because we were rebounding at a high level. The team felt it too. There was never a part in the game when our play went up and down. They had the mentality to move on the next play. That's what really kept us out of any bad body language. In the second quarter for instance, they got to the bonus but we didn't let them live at the line. That's a maturity thing from our group. It can deflate you when the other team is living at the line and we didn't let that happen."

On shutting down their runs all game: "Our coaches always tell us to not get down on ourselves after they make a run and to just bounce back from that. We just have to try not let their runs get to us."

On getting a big win tonight: "It's a shift to get us to know that we can win any game if we keep playing like this. If we play like we played today, we can beat anybody."

On the Badgers' performance tonight: "I feel like we got a lot better today as a team. Everyone did something to participate. I think everyone played really well tonight. We got the 'W' tonight and it feels great."
