Wellhausen previews UW's playoff series

Hey there, Badger Fans!

This week has been a busy week for quite a few of the girls and myself as midterms have been coming into effect, so I will be keeping this blog short and sweet considering I have some studies to get back to!

Last weekend the Badgers tied BOTH games in the legendary Border Battle series with the Gophers. The Badgers peppered Gopher's goalie Sidney Peters, yet could not seem to find any puck luck.

Saturday's game resulted in a 1-1 tie, thanks to a comeback snipe by senior Sarah Nurse, who also helped send the Badgers over the edge in a post-regulation shootout with another top-shelf rocket. Jenny Ryan showed off her dirty dangles as well, capitalizing on her shootout attempt.

Sunday's game reflected the intensity of the rivalry between the two teams, a fast-paced and physical battle. Neither team could find the back of the net, ending the game in a 0-0 tie entering the weekend's second shootout. Unfortunately the Gophers prevailed in the shootout.

However, we've put last weekend behind us, proud of our regular season achievements.

Now it's playoff time: the best time of the year. All eyes are on the prize as the Badgers prepare to take on the Minnesota State Mavericks in a best-of-three series. Excitement can be felt on and off the ice as the girls are all eager to hit the ice.

This week's focus? To finish our chances.

"We're playing to potentially end Mankato's season so I expect them to come out and give us a battle," Nurse said. "No game from here on out is going to be easy but I'm excited, and I know that the rest of the team is ready to get playoffs going."

When asked on what the Badgers can improve on going into these games, she noted: "Last weekend we started out a little flat so I'm looking for us to have a good start and hopefully get a few first period goals to put them back in their heels."

The Badgers kickoff their playoff run Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and play Saturday at 4:00 p.m. If needed, a third game would take place on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. We hope to see you there! Thanks for all of your support always. We truly have the best fans, and you all make playing this sport so incredible!

On Wisconsin!
