Badgers add height and depth to front row
MADISON, Wis. – Julia Wohlert, a 6-7 right-side hitter/middle blocker from Indianapolis, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball with the No. 10 Wisconsin Badgers, head coach Kelly Sheffield announced today.
"I'm excited to announce that Julia will be part of the Wisconsin volleyball program," said Sheffield. "She's a great young lady with a fantastic future, both on and off the volleyball court. She's intelligent, kind, and a quick learner.Â
"Julia's relatively new to the sport but has really turned into a very good player. She received really good coaching last year and her development just took off as the club season progressed. The size of her block and the amount of space she takes away from hitters is very unique. She has the potential to be a game changer with her blocking. Offensively, she can hit off of one or two feet and she can hit first or second-tempo sets. She's a player that when she gets around Kevin Schultz, our strength coach, I think has the potential to really take off."
A two-time all-county selection at Decatur Central High School, Wohlert is ranked No. 47 on the PrepVolleyball Senior Aces list. As a senior, she averaged 3.1 kills and 1.2 blocks per set while hitting .614 percent for coach Dee Taylor. Wohlert competed in the Indiana High School Volleyball Coaches Association North vs. South All-Star Team as a junior. She is a member of the National Honor Society and is a Senior Leader for Choice Academy.
Wohlert also plays for Circle City Volleyball Club for coach Scott McQueen. Her team finished fifth at the 2017 USAV 17 Open Nationals and won the 2017 Academy Midwest Classic.
