Badgers one of four Big Ten teams in the ranking
MADISON, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin volleyball team is seeded 10th in the mid-season NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Committee top-10 ranking, released Wednesday.
Using the selection criteria and results through matches as of Oct. 29, Penn State (21-1) leads the ranking followed by fellow Big Ten Conference members Nebraska (18-4) and Minnesota (21-2) at second and third, respectively. Stanford (19-2) is ranked fourth followed by Kentucky (19-2) to round out the top five. The remainder of the top 10 are Florida (18-1), Texas (17-2), Washington (18-5), Oregon (14-6), and Wisconsin (15-6), respectively.
"After the great feedback from last year's top-10 ranking announcement, the DI Women's Volleyball committee chose to continue the engagement with the volleyball community during regular-season play," said Lisa Peterson, chair of the committee and Deputy Athletic Director/SWA at the University of Oregon. "The ranking is a chance for the committee to provide insight to fans ahead of Selection Sunday."
The ranking is based on the criteria used to select and seed the 64 teams for the Division I Women's Volleyball Championship and includes strength of schedule, Rating Percentage Index, head-to-head competition, results versus common opponents, significant wins and losses, and locations of contests.
The ranking announcement is part of the continued team evaluations that culminates with the final bracket, revealed during the selection show on Sunday, Nov. 26, at 8 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
First and second-round competition will be held at 16 non-predetermined campus sites Nov. 30-Dec. 2 with the winning team from each of the 16 second rounds advancing to the regional round.
Regionals will be held at four non-predetermined campus sites Dec. 8-9.
The winning team from each of the four regions advance to the DI Women's Volleyball Championship at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The national semifinals will be held Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., and air live on ESPN2. The national championship takes place Dec. 16 at 8 p.m. and airs live on ESPN2.
