MADISON, Wis. – After leading UW to a successful season with 12 wins and a national ranking as high as No. 9, six members of the Wisconsin women's soccer team were honored by the Big Ten Conference on Friday.
Victoria Pickett headlines the group after being named to the All-Big Ten first team. The midfielder earns her second conference accolade after being named to the second team, all-freshman team and the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2015. The Barrie, Ontario, native has been the key to the Wisconsin midfield all season long, recording two goals and three assists.
After a standout season, forward
Dani Rhodes was named to the All-Big Ten second team. The sophomore leads the team in goals (10), assists (4), points (24), shots (56), shots on goal (30), game-winning goals (5) and has been at the top of the conference in all those categories all season long.
The Badgers saw a record number of three players named to the All-Big Ten freshman team as
Sammy Kleedtke,
Cameron Murtha and
Lauren Rice were all honored. All three freshmen have started all 18 games since their Cardinal and White debuts.
Murtha, a Kensington, Maryland native, was just named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week after scoring the gamewinner in the upset of No. 11 Penn State, marking her fifth goal of the season.
Rice, a forward from Noblesville, Indiana, has been a prolific attacker for the Badgers, scoring three goals and dishing out three assists in her rookie campaign.
Kleedtke has been a pivotal member of the Badgers' backline, helping UW to nine shutouts this season. She also has two assists, including the one against powerhouse Penn State, marking two consecutive games she has recorded an assist.
Senior captain
Becca Harrison is the epitome of a great leader and teammate, which is why she earned a spot on the All-Big Ten sportsmanship team. The Valencia, California native has played in all 18 games this season and has two goals.
