Dana Rettke named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Middle blocker recognized with fourth honor of season
MADISON, Wis. – Of the six weeks that the Big Ten Conference has recognized weekly award winners this season, Dana Rettke's name has been under the Freshman of the Week award four times. The 6-8 middle blocker on the Wisconsin volleyball team was recognized on Monday with her fourth award this season.
Rettke led the Badgers with 12 kills at Iowa while hitting .600 (12 kills – 0 errors – 20 attempts). She added 11 kills at Nebraska to average 2.88 kills per set on the weekend. The freshman had a team-high four blocks at Iowa and six blocks at Nebraska to average 1.25 blocks per set. Rettke continues to improve her service, adding three aces on the weekend to average 0.38 aces per set.
On the season, Rettke shares team-high honors with 3.25 kills per set while hitting a Badger-best .442 (143-28-260), which ranks sixth nationally. The Riverside, Illinois, native has a team-best 68 blocks to average 1.55 blocks per set, ranking 11th in the nation. Rettke also leads UW with 16 service aces, averaging 0.36 per set.
No. 7 Wisconsin (11-2, 2-2 B1G) splits in action this week, hosting No. 6 Minnesota (13-2, 2-2) at home on Wednesday before traveling to No. 14 Michigan State (11-2, 4-0) on Saturday. First serve is 7 p.m. on Wednesday from the UW Field House live on the Big Ten Network. Fans are encouraged to wear white to support the Badgers and bring a non-perishable food item for a Red and White Hunger Fight food drive. Saturday's match starts at 3 p.m. from Jenison Field House in East Lansing, Michigan. Â
The Badgers are in the midst of a four-match stretch against ranked opponents. In addition to falling at No. 8 Nebraska last Saturday, UW faces No. 6 Minnesota on Wednesday, No. 14 Michigan State on Saturday, and the now-fourth-ranked Huskers again on Oct. 11.

Wisconsin remains seventh in AVCA Coaches' Poll
Despite splitting in Big Ten action, Wisconsin remains seventh in this week's AVCA Top-25 Coaches' Poll. The Badgers have been ranked in the national poll for 50 consecutive weeks, including 27 straight weeks in the top 10.
