Baylee looks forward to series against the Mavericks

Hi Badger Fans!

Hopefully you are all staying warm in the beginning of the chilly fall weather that has crept into our lives.

The Badgers captured two victories this weekend against Syracuse on their first trip of the season. Friday's game resulted in a 1-0 win, thanks to a goal by sophomore superstar Abby Roque.

It was an absolute dangle and snipe. Datsyuk status.

In the second match of the weekend, the Badgers came out flying, defeating Syracuse 5-2, with goals by captain Claude (2), Mikaela Gardner, Caitlin Schneider, and Lauren Williams.

"I think last weekend was a good building block for us as a team, the first road series is always tough and to come out with 2 wins is a great start," Roque said.

Sophomore goalie Kristen Campbell also excelled this weekend, earning Defensive Player of the Week honors with her two wins, 36 saves, and shutout. Congrats Soup!

This weekend the Badgers are taking another business trip to Mankato for a series against the Mavericks. Off the ice, the girls have been busy organizing homework, downloading a plethora of movies and Netflix shows, and making sure their favorite pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals are ready to go for the long bus trek to Minnesota. On the ice, we are improving on all the little things we can in order to become collectively better. Whether that's possessing and protecting the puck, chipping it off the walls, or winning battles—all the gritty things.

I asked junior forward Sam Cogan what she thinks the team needs to focus on heading into the next games.

"I think we really need to work on coming out strong," she noted.

"When we have the puck in their zone, that's when we are most effective. So I think we need to just keep getting it deep, cycling, putting more shots on net, and we will be successful."

Could not have said it better myself Sam!

Come support the Cardinal and White at the Verizon Wireless Center Friday night at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m. If you are unable to make the trip to Mankato, follow the games online at UWBadgers.com or on the Badger Women's Hockey Twitter feed.

We are thankful for your support!

On Wisconsin!
