Wisconsin midfielder will participate in January camp
USA Release
MADISON, Wis. – For the second year in a row, former Badger Rose Lavelle has been named to the roster for the USA's first training camp of 2017.
Lavelle was one of 29 players and 11 midfielders called up by head coach Jill Ellis for the event in Carson, California, that runs from Jan. 13-23. The Badger senior is one of six uncapped players on the roster.
The January training camp will be a key evaluation period for Ellis to choose a squad for the upcoming SheBelieves Cup, which – as the inaugural tournament did last year – will feature four of the world's top-five ranked teams in the USA (1), Germany (2), France (3) and England (5).
Lavelle is expected to be drafted high in the upcoming National Women's Soccer League draft on Jan. 12 in Los Angeles.
Lavelle recently made Wisconsin history, becoming the program's first three-time All-American. She recorded a team-leading 16 points, six goals, 74 shots, 31 shots on goal and two game-winning goals in her senior campaign. Additionally, she ranked second on the team with four assists on the year.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native saw action in all 22 games this season with an average of 3.36 shots per game and 0.73 points per game.
Lavelle has garnered many other awards this season, including being named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch list and being ranked as the No. 1 preseason player of the year by TopDrawerSoccer.
Most notably, she was named Big Ten Midfielder of the Year for the second-consecutive season, becoming the first student-athlete to earn the honor in back-to-back years since its debut in 2011. Lavelle concluded her collegiate career as a four-time first-team All-Big Ten selection.
Additionally, Lavelle was named to the Senior CLASS Award second team.
