Wellhausen previews UW's upcoming series with MSU
Happy Gameday Badger Fans!!Â
Â
Last weekend the Badgers endured a pretty physical battle against the University of North Dakota.Â
Â
It was difficult to find much flow in Saturday's game due to a plethora of penalties, but the Badgers somehow managed to find the back of the net three times, thanks to Jenny Ryan, Sarah Nurse, and a gorgeous dangle by Annie Pankowski. The Cardinal and White defeated the Fighting Hawks 3-2.Â
Â
Sunday's matchup was a nail-biter, remaining tied until the final minutes of the third period. Captain Sydney McKibbon tallied not one--but TWO goals--including the game winner. I asked the captain to walk us through her goals.Â
Â
"It's was very exciting to score those two goals especially in such a tight game," McKibbon said.Â
Â
"Credit goes to my teammates for making nice plays on both goals. On the first goal Jenny and I were on a two-on-one and she missed the net but luckily it bounced out to me and I was able to put it in the net. On the second one we were on the power play and Annie made a nice pass to me in the slot!"
Â
You were the hero of the weekend Squid! So proud of you.
Â
Tonight the Badgers will begin a two-game series against Minnesota State. After a successful week of practices, the Badgers are prepared for what's to come.Â
Â
"I'm definitely expecting a hard fought battle," Ryan said of the Mavericks. "They have been playing teams really well lately and always seem to play hard until the last second."Â
Â
The Badgers play tonight at 7:07 p.m. and Saturday at 3:07 p.m. Tonight also happens to be Student Night at LaBahn. The first 200 students to attend will receive free Badger women's hockey t-shirts. We hope to see you there!Â
Â
Once again, thank you for being the best fans ever!Â
