TEAM NOTES
• Today's captains: senior OLB Vince Biegel, senior RB Dare Ogunbowale and senior S Leo Musso.
• Today's attendance at Camp Randall Stadium: 77,331.
• Wisconsin won its 36th-consecutive non-conference game at Camp Randall Stadium, matching Ohio State (1991-2005) for the sixth-longest streak in FBS history. UW hasn't lost a non-conference contest at home since Sept. 13, 2003.
• The Badgers won their home opener for the 21st consecutive season, dating back to 1996.
• UW improved to 74-9 at home since the start of the 2004 season. The Badgers' .902 win percentage is the second-best mark in the nation over that span, trailing only Oklahoma (66-7, .904).
• Wisconsin has held opponents to an average of 6.0 points per game over its last 10 non-conference home games, dating back to the start of the 2013 season.
• The Badgers improved to 3-0 all-time vs. Akron and 31-2 all-time against the current membership of the Mid-American Conference.
• UW piled up 586 yards of offense, the team's highest total since racking up 627 vs. Nebraska (Nov. 15, 2014).
• The Badgers balanced 294 yards rushing with 292 yards passing. This was UW's first game with more than 290 yards rushing and passing since at least 1996.
• Wisconsin converted 10 of 15 third-down opportunities on the day, its most third-down conversions since tallying 10 against Northern Illinois (Sept. 17, 2011).
• The Badgers' 32 first downs overall are the team's most since gaining 34 against Northern Illinois (Sept. 17, 2011).
• Wisconsin has limited its first two opponents to a combined 3-for-20 on third down, holding Akron to 1-for-10 and LSU to a 2-for-10 day.
• UW dominated the time of possession by a 40:52 to 19:08 margin. The Badgers held the ball for at least 40 minutes in two games last season: at Illinois and at Minnesota.
• Including 2 against Akron, the Badgers have forced 5 turnovers in their first two games, their most in the first 2 games of the season since creating 9 turnovers vs. Fresno State and UNLV to open the 2002 season.
• Wisconsin recorded a safety in the first quarter with an Alec James sack of Akron QB Thomas Woodson, UW's first since Western Illinois was charged with a safety on the opening kickoff of the game on Sept. 6, 2014. James' sack was the first defensive play in the end zone leading to a safety since Mike Newkirk recorded a sack vs. Minnesota on Nov. 15, 2008.
• Wisconsin ran 28 plays for 212 yards in the first quarter, compared to 4 yards on 5 plays for Akron. In two games this season, UW has outgained its opponents 331-11 in the first quarter.
• UW held a 13:47 to 1:13 lead in time of possession in the first quarter.
• JoJo Natson's punt return touchdown in the second quarter was the first allowed by the Badgers since Ohio State's Corey Brown had a 68-yard punt return TD on Nov. 17, 2012.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• Senior RB Corey Clement posted the ninth 100-yard rushing game of his career, matching his career high with 21 carries for 121 yards (5.3 average) and 2 touchdowns.
• Wisconsin is 9-0 all-time when Clement rushes for 100 yards or more.
• Clement now has 304 carries for 1,924 yards for a career average of 6.33 yards per carry. That ranks him second in school history behind only Melvin Gordon (2011-14), who holds the FBS record for average yards per carry at 7.79.
• Clement carried 7 times for 47 yards on the Badgers' 13-play, 83-yard opening possession, capping the drive with a 4-yard touchdown run to put UW up 7-0.
• Junior WR Jazz Peavy hauled in a career-high 7 passes for a career-best 100 yards. Peavy caught the first touchdown pass of his career on a 13-yard reception from Houston in the second quarter and added another TD reception later in the period on a 34-yard pass from Houston.
• Peavy and TE Troy Fumagalli (100 vs. LSU) are the first Badgers teammates to have back-to-back 100-yard receiving games since Isaac Anderson had 114 vs. Minnesota on Nov. 15 and David Gilreath had 125 vs. Cal Poly on Nov 22, 2008.
• Clement and Peavy gave the Badgers their first 100-yard rushing/100-yard receiving duo since Clement (115 rushing) and WR Alex Erickson (103 receiving) acheived the feat vs. Rutgers on Oct. 31, 2015.
• Senior QB Bart Houston made his first start at Camp Randall Stadium, going 15-for-22 for 231 yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions (186.4 quarterback rating).
• Houston connected with WR Rob Wheelwright on a 47-yard pass in the first quarter, a career-long completion for Houston and career-long reception for Wheelwright.
• Wheelwright finished with a career-high 99 receiving yards on 4 receptions.
• Redshirt freshman QB Alex Hornibrook made his Badgers debut, entering the game in the third quarter. He finished 5-for-5 for 61 yards and 1 touchdown (268.5 QB rating).
• Hornibrook's first pass was a 10-yard completion to freshman WR Quintez Cephus, who made the first catch of his career. His second pass was a 4-yard completion to freshman WR A.J. Taylor, who logged the first reception of his career. Taylor would finish with 2 catches for 39 yards.
• Hornibrook connected with FB Alec Ingold on a 6-yard completion in the third quarter for the first touchdown pass of his career and the first TD reception of Ingold's career. Hornibrook went 4-for-4 for 26 yards on his first drive.
• Redshirt freshman RB Bradrick Shaw got the first carries of his career, finishing with 9 totes for 74 yards including a 35-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
• A week after logging the first rushing attempts of his career, junior FB Austin Ramesh scored his first rushing touchdown on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter.
• Redshirt freshman OL Jon Dietzen made his first collegiate start, lining up at left guard.
• Sophomore ILB T.J. Edwards, the Badgers' leading tackler and Freshman All-American last season, made his season debut and recorded his first career sack after suffering a fractured foot during the offseason.
• Senior S Leo Musso recorded his fourth career interception.
• Junior OLB T.J. Watt tallied his first career sack.
• Sophomore NT Olive Sagapolu played both ways, playing at nose tackle and also seeing time at fullback.
• Junior K Rafael Gaglianone converted a 33-yard field goal in the third quarter, improving to 4-for-4 on the season and matching Mike Allen (2001-04) for fifth on UW's all-time field goals list with the 41st converted FG of his career.
• Freshman P Anthony Lotti made his Badgers debut.
• Sophomore WR Ricky Finco made his collegiate debut.
