MADISON, Wis. — Today we feature two Big Ten Medal of Honor nominees from women's tennis and men's soccer, Lauren Chypyha and Adam Lauko, respectively.

The Big Ten Medal of Honor award is presented annually at each Big Ten institution to a male and female student-athlete in the graduating class who has demonstrated proficiency in scholarship and athletics. The conference's most exclusive award, it was the first of its kind in intercollegiate athletics to recognize academic and athletic excellence.

Lauren Chypyha, Women's Tennis
One of the most decorated players in Wisconsin women's tennis history, Lauren Chypyha finished her standout career with 95 singles wins, the fourth-highest total in UW history. One of just eight Badgers to be named a three-time All-Big Ten selection, Chypyha held the No. 1 singles position three years at Wisconsin.

On the heels of an impressive senior season, Chypyha earned her first selection to the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Singles Championship. The Toronto, Ontario, native became the first Badger to be selected to the NCAA singles championship since 2007. Chypyha tallied a mark of 30-7 on the singles court this season, which tied for the seventh-most single season wins in program history. This year alone, she earned seven wins over players ranked in the final ITA poll.

A two-time academic all-Big Ten honoree, Chypyha graduated from Wisconsin with a degree in political science and was a recipient of the Big Ten Conference postgraduate scholarship.

Adam Lauko, Men's Soccer
A longtime leader for the Wisconsin men's soccer team, Adam Lauko has always carried himself with class both on and off the field. A team captain this past season as a senior, Lauko epitomized what it means to be a student-athlete at the University of Wisconsin.

A CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree both in 2014 and 2015, Lauko played in 48 games and started 43 of them over the course of his collegiate career. A native of Baldwinsville, New York, he played in a career-high 16 games both as a junior and senior and started all but two games his final years for the Badgers on the pitch.

One of the high points during Lauko's career in Madison came during the 2013 season, when Lauko helped Wisconsin reach the NCAA tournament for the first time in nearly two decades. He appeared in five games and started two games that season as a sophomore. UW hosted Milwaukee in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament and topped the in-state foe in a 1-0 final.

Lauko was part of establishing a dominance of play at home for the Badgers that resulted in a home unbeaten streak of 14 straight matches, which at the time was the longest active streak in the nation.

This past season, Lauko scored his first career goal during a road contest at UC Davis. The defender helped the UW back line record two shutouts.

Named to the 2012 Big Ten All-Freshman Team, Lauko was a four-time academic All-Big Ten honoree and graduated from Wisconsin with a degree in biochemistry. He was recently awarded with the Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarship.
