MADISON, Wis. — Today we feature two Big Ten Medal of Honor nominees from women's basketball and men's track and field, Nicole Bauman and Charlie Foss, respectively.

The Big Ten Medal of Honor award is presented annually at each Big Ten institution to a male and female student-athlete in the graduating class who has demonstrated proficiency in scholarship and athletics. The conference's most exclusive award, it was the first of its kind in intercollegiate athletics to recognize academic and athletic excellence.

Nicole Bauman, Women's Basketball

Wisconsin's 2016 Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winner, Nicole Bauman finished a decorated career at UW and went down in the record books with the program's best career 3-point percentage after shooting 40.9 percent (187-of-457).

The New Berlin, Wisconsin, native led the Badgers with 16.8 points per game this season and scored in double figures in 10 games. She tied a school record by going 5-for-5 from beyond the arc against Northern Illinois on Dec. 16, 2015.

Bauman, a 2015 and 2016 Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honoree, ranks fifth at Wisconsin in career triples made (187) and 3-point attempts (457). She is the UW Big Ten-season record holder for the 3-pointers made (61) and percentage (.508), which she set in 2014-15. In that same season, Bauman set the UW single-season record for 3-point percentage (.488) and led the Big Ten and ranked second in the nation for her 3-point percentage.

The most improved scorer in the Big Ten in 2014-15, Bauman scored in double digits in 23 games as a junior, including her record-breaking game against Ohio State (Jan. 29, 2015) where she had a career-high 31 points and shattered the Kohl Center single-game record for both men and women by making eight 3-pointers.

Bauman became the 24th player at Wisconsin to record 1,000 career points, hitting the grand mark against Iowa on Jan. 13. She finished with 1,213 career points, which ranks 19th all-time at UW.

A business major and two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, Bauman is currently participating in an internship with the Manhattan Sports Business Academy and Game Seven Marketing in New York City.

Charlie Foss, Men's Track and Field

A four-time Big Ten Sportsmanship honoree, Charlie Foss set a personal-best score of 7,085 points in the decathlon at the 2016 Big Ten Outdoor Championships to finish seventh, as he was one of three Badgers to score in the event. It marked the second time in his career that Foss broke the 7,000-point mark in the 10-discipline event.

During his collegiate career, Foss, a native of Appleton, Wisconsin, scored at five Big Ten meets in the multi-events. His highest finish came at the 2016 Big Ten Indoor Championships, where he placed fourth with a then-personal-best score of 5,336 points.

An economics major, Foss was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree for the Badgers and earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic honors last season.

Foss finished fourth at the 2016 Jack Jennett Invitational with a then-personal best of 5,220 points in the heptathlon. During the seven-event discipline, he collected personal bests in the 60 meter hurdles (8.37) and pole vault (14-9 (4.50m)).

At the 2015 Big Ten Outdoor Championships, Foss finished eighth in the decathlon with a score of 7,047 points.
