Junior goaltender recorded four shutouts in January
MADISON, Wis. – After leading the country in almost every goaltending statistic in January, Wisconsin women's hockey goaltender Ann-Renée Desbiens was named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Month for January, the league announced Wednesday.
The award comes on the heels of Desbiens earning WCHA Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second-straight week, in addition to being named the American Sports Network Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Desbiens was a perfect 8-0-0 in January, posting four shutouts to lead the conference. Her save percentage of .976 and her goals-against average of 0.50 during the month not only led the WCHA, but NCAA as well.
On the season, the La Malbaie, Quebec, native leads the country in save percentage (.966), goals-against average (0.62) wins (24) and shutouts (14). Her 14 shutouts this year are tied for the most in program history and are tied for the third-most in the NCAA record books. Â
Desbiens earned her 31st career shutout on Sunday in UW's 3-0 win over St. Cloud State, moving her into third-place in NCAA history for career blank slates.
The No. 2 Badgers hit the road this weekend to Columbus, Ohio, to take on Ohio State. Faceoff on Friday is set for 6 p.m. CT, while Saturday's contest starts at 3 p.m.
