Sophomore Clark joins alums Mikkelson and Turnbull on world team

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women's hockey sophomore Emily Clark, along with alums Meaghan Mikkelson and Blayre Turnbull, have been selected to Canada's 23-player roster for the 2016 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship, as announced by Hockey Canada Monday.

Clark will make her second appearance for Team Canada at the 2016 IIHF World Championship, while Turnbull is making her first appearance at the tournament. Mikkelson, a two-time Olympian, will play in her sixth IIHF World Championship.

The trio joins six Badgers who were named to the U.S. roster last week in Brianna Decker, Meghan Duggan, Hilary Knight, Annie Pankowski, Alex Rigsby and Jessie Vetter.

This year's world championship takes place in Kamloops, British Columbia. Canada and the U.S. meet on the tournament's opening day, March 28 and the tournament concludes on April 4.
 
Clark, a Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, native, has suited up for Hockey Canada on numerous stages. The sophomore won gold at the 2012 and 2013 Under-18 IIHF World Championships, as well as winning silver with Team Canada at the 2015 IIHF World Championships. Clark played in two Four Nations Cups, winning gold in 2014 and silver in 2015.
 
This year, Clark has collected 41 points on 22 goals and 19 assists and leads the WCHA with seven game-winners. She has been named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week twice this season, recording 12 multi-point performances thus far. As a freshman, Clark registered 27 points and was named to the WCHA All-Rookie Team.
 
Hailing from St. Albert, Alberta, Mikkelson represented Canada at both the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics, winning gold both years. She has played in the Four Nations Cup four times (2008-10, 2012) and five IIHF World Championships (2008-09, 2011-13). Mikkelson currently plays for the Calgary Inferno of the Canadian Women's Hockey League.
 
During her collegiate career at Wisconsin, Mikkelson tallied 29 goals and 86 assists. Her 81 points as a defenseman her final two years at UW are the eighth most in program history by a blue liner. Mikkelson holds the single-season record for points by a defenseman, tabbing 11 goals and 38 assists in 2006-07. She was named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Year and a Patty Kazmaier Award Top 10 finalist in the same season. Mikkelson won back-to-back NCAA titles with the Badgers in 2006 and 2007.
 
Turnbull, a forward from Stellarton, Nova Scotia, has played for Hockey Canada in a pair of Four Nations Cups, winning gold in 2014 and 2015. Turnbull currently plays with Mikkelson for the Calgary Inferno, notching 19 points this season.
 
Turnbull's 98 career points at Wisconsin are tied for 21st in program history, and her eight career short-handed goals are tied for the most in UW history. Captain of the 2014-15 squad, Turnbull was named an All-WCHA First Team member the same year.
