Hi Badger Fans!!
Last weekend the Badgers attained the WCHA championship title for the regular season with two wins against Minnesota State. On Saturday the Badgers won 4-0 with the help of goals by
Sydney McKibbon (2),
Erika Sowchuk, and myself. Sunday's game resulted in an 8-1 victory over the Mavericks, with goals by a plethora of Badgers including
Emily Clark (2),
Courtney Burke,
Sydney McKibbon,
Sarah Nurse,
Annie Pankowski,
Erika Sowchuk, and myself.
Highlights include captain
Courtney Burke capturing her 100th career point with her goal on Sunday. "It was a pretty cool moment. I think overall it was my favorite moment as a badger in my career," she reflected. "It was senior day and we won the league and I got my 100th point. My whole family was in Madison so it was a pretty special day."
In addition to her 100th point, Court earned WCHA Defenseman of the Week honors. Congrats superstar!
However, it doesn't stop there! Freshman
Sophia Shaver was awarded her first WCHA Rookie of the Week honor as well, tallying three assists in Sunday's win. Way to go Soph!
This week the Badgers have been preparing for yet another exciting Border Battle weekend! As always, the energy among the girls is higher than ever.
I asked
Annie Pankowski what her expectations are for this weekend.
"Anytime you get the chance to play in a top five match up, it's going to be a great game," she noted. "It's going to come down to who can do the little things and who can keep the composure. Playing in Ridder offers a tough atmosphere to play in and Minnesota definitely is a respectable team so it's going to be an absolute battle of who wants it more. And I know this team wants it."
Got that right, Pancake!
The Badgers hit the ice tonight against the Gophers at 7:00 pm, and tomorrow at 3:00 pm. Tune in tomorrow on Big Ten Network to watch the battle. Once again, we thank you for the amazing support you have given us and continue to give us each weekend! We truly have the best fans in hockey.
On Wisconsin!!
