Good Morning Badger Fans!
Last weekend, the Badgers swept Ohio State in a 2-1 win on Friday (thanks to goals by
Jenny Ryan and
Annie Pankowski) and a 2-0 win (thanks to goals from Samantha Cogan and myself).
Sam's goal, along with her assist on the game winning goal on Friday, earned her the WCHA Rookie of the Week title. Congrats Sam!
On the defensive side of the game, Ann-Renee Desbiens surpassed the Wisconsin Women's Hockey record for career shutouts, reaching a total of 15 after the Ohio State series. That's the third-most in NCAA history. Congratulations to you as well, Ann!
As for this week, the Badgers have been preparing to take on Minnesota State in a two game series starting today at 2:07 pm and tomorrow at 2:07 pm as well. The Mavericks are a strong team, very physical to play against, and have given teams countless battles over the past couple of weekends. It will be a series we have made sure to not take lightly. If we keep continuing to do the little things right, using our assets to our advantage, and working hard, we will find success!
Sunday's game will be a special one. We're honoring the senior class of 2016 for the years they've dedicated themselves to wearing the Red and White. In light of the special weekend for these girls, I've asked some of the seniors to reflect on their favorite memories as Badgers. Here are their responses:
Katy Harding: "I would have to say my favorite memory would be winning the WCHA's last year and also finally sweeping Minnesota at home this year in front of a sold-out crowd!"
Molly Donor: "My favorite memory as a Badger is getting to put on the jersey for the very first time. It was something I had dreamed about since I was a little girl. Seeing it hanging in my stall and getting to pull it over my head was an absolutely surreal feeling and something I will cherish for the rest of my life."
Erika Sowchuk: "Sweeping Minnesota in front of a sold out crowd this year was something I'll never forget! That was a special weekend."
Jorie Walters: "By far my favorite memory was coming out for starting line ups for the Fill the Bowl game my sophomore year. The lights were off and there were smoke machines and over 14,000 fans were at that game. It was incredible."
Courtney Burke: "It would either have to be winning the WCHA tournament last year or beating Minnesota for the first time in 3 years!"
Kim Drake: "Oh gosh, it's hard to pick and choose, but capturing a WCHA title last year was definitely a moment in itself. It was an accomplishment our senior class had yet to earn and it felt great to share that moment with everyone."
On behalf of the underclassman, I would like to thank you, seniors. Thanks for showing us endless work ethic, true passion, and leadership unlike anything else. Playing with you all is something I know many of us underclassman will always keep in our hearts for years to come. You've taught us to play each game as if it's our last, because before we know it, Senior Day comes along and we'll wonder where the time went.
We hope to see all of you fans this afternoon and tomorrow! Thank you for your support and for making LaBahn such an amazing atmosphere to play in.
On Wisconsin!
