Hi Badger Fans!Â
Â
Last weekend the Badgers performed in front of a sellout crowd, defeating Cornell 3-0 and 5-2. Highlights from the weekend include a total of three goals by junior
Annie Pankowski, a goal each by seniors
Sarah Nurse and
Sydney McKibbon, a goal by sophomore Samantha Cogan, and Madeline Rolfes' first-ever career goal as a Badger.Â
Â
We are all so proud of you Mads! Keep it up.Â
Â
I would also like to congratulate Baby Badger
Nikki Cece, who earned her first shutout this past weekend in the Badger's first game against Cornell. Her remarkable play earned her WCHA Rookie of the Week honors. You rock Nikki!Â
Â
Another Badger freshman, and my linemate,
Abby Roque was also named WCHA Rookie of the Month for November. Congrats Abby! It's a great week in Badger hockey!Â
Â
But the real moment we have all been waiting for is upon us: Border Battle weekend.
Â
I think I have watched the video that was tweeted and posted on Facebook by our communications staff about a dozen times.Â
Â
And each time chills are sent throughout my body.Â
Â
It's a rivalry that has been instilled within Badger hockey for generations, an intensity unlike any other. As the girls stated in the video montage, when we play against Minnesota, we are playing for something greater than just the team.Â
Â
"It's always a great atmosphere when we play the Gophers," captain
Sydney McKibbon said. "I know the fans are going to be excited and LaBahn is going to be packed. We all look forward to these games because they are extremely competitive and fast pace, and those are the game you want to play in."Â
Â
I could not have said it better myself, Syd!Â
Â
There's something about these kind of games. There's something about the roar of the crowd that's just little louder, the energy in the locker room that's just a little stronger, the battles in the corners that are just a little feistier, and scoring goals against the Maroon and Gold that's just a little more electrifying.Â
Â
We're ready. And we hope to see you all there.Â
Â
The Badgers play Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. and fans can watch our game Sunday on Fox Sports Wisconsin!
Â
On Wisconsin!Â
