Top-50 players, Keberle and Rompf, to join Badgers next fall
MADISON, Wis. -- Head women's tennis coach Kelcy McKenna announced Wednesday that high school seniors Lexi Keberle and Maryann Rompf have signed national letters of intent to attend the University of Wisconsin and play tennis for the Badgers beginning in the fall of 2017.
"Maryann and Lexi certainly have the potential to be impact players for the University of Wisconsin," McKenna said. "Both ladies are the type of hard working, high character young women we want representing Badger Women's Tennis. (Assistant Coach) Megan Falcon and I are looking forward to getting on the court with Maryann and Lexi beginning next fall."
Lexi Keberle
5-7, Right-handed
West Bend, Wis. (East HS)
Wisconsin's first-ever blue chip recruit, Lexi Keberle is the number one player in the state of Wisconsin and ranked No. 26 in the nation. A native of West Bend, Wisconsin, Keberle won the Div. I state singles championship for West Bend East High School during her two seasons of prep tennis, owning an undefeated 61-0 record during high school play. The daughter of Doug and Laura, Keberle went 41-6 overall in 2015-16, including a mark of 13-6 against other Blue Chip recruits.
"Lexi has seen exponential growth in her tennis during her prep career," McKenna added. "She brings a fierce competitiveness and love for the state of Wisconsin. To have Lexi choose to be a Badger and continue to represent her state at the collegiate level speaks volumes as to how deep her home grown roots run."
"I wanted to play for my state," Keberle told TennisRecruiting.net. "Nielsen Stadium - where the Badgers play - is the same place I won two high school championships the two years I played in high school. Now I get to play there for four more years.
"But one of the great things about top D-I schools like Wisconsin is the AD, and Barry Alvarez is one of the best. He's committed to winning in every sport - which starts with finding top coaches dedicated to winning. He brought in Kelcy McKenna and Megan Falcon. They were top NCAA players, are young, incredibly focused and will take Badger tennis to another level."
Maryann Rompf
5-6, Right-handed
Bradenton, Fla. (St. Stephens HS)
A five-star recruit, Maryann Rompf comes to Wisconsin as the ninth-ranked player in the state of Florida and No. 44 nationally. Originally from Rhode Island, Rompf now resides in Bradenton, Florida. A senior at St. Stephens High School, Rompf has put together a record of 30-23 on the national circuit. The daughter of Bill & Mary Rompf, Maryann and her mother, Mary – who was an All-American at USC – won both the 2013 and 2015 USTA National Mother-Daughter Grass Court Championships.
"Throughout her junior career, Maryann has consistently improved due to her exceptional work ethic," McKenna said. "We are really looking forward to having her in a team environment and watching her develop as a student, teammate, leader and athlete."
