Senior scored five goals to lead No. 1 UW to sweep at No. 9 North Dakota
MADISON, Wis. – After leading the top-ranked Wisconsin women's hockey team to a sweep of conference rival North Dakota, senior Sarah Nurse was named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Nurse earned her second career offensive player of the week accolade after scoring five goals against the then-No. 9 Fighting Hawks, including four tallies in UW's 5-2 win on Sunday.
The senior alternate captain's excellent weekend started when she scored an insurance goal late in UW's 2-0 win over UND on Saturday, which marked her eighth-career goal against UND.
Her goal on Saturday helped set the stage for Sunday, as Nurse scored a pair of goals in the first period and then two more in the third period, helping UW complete a sweep at UND for the first time since the 2010-11 season.
The Hamilton, Ontario, native became only the fourth Badger in program history to record four goals in a single game, joining Meghan Hunter, Cindy Kenyon and Brooke Ammerman in UW's four-goal club.
Nurse now has 12 career goals against North Dakota, nine of which have come on the road in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Her five goals last week, which paced the WCHA and NCAA, give Nurse 95 career points, which ranks 23rd in school history. She needs only five more points to become the 22nd Badger to reach 100 points.
Nurse and the top-ranked Badgers wrap up a six-game road swing with a trip to Mankato, Minnesota, to take on Minnesota State. Faceoff on both Friday and Saturday is set for 2 p.m. CT.
