Junior advances with two wins and Colton and Remy advance in doubles at ITA Midwest Regional
MADISON, Wis. – In Saturday's competition at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships, junior Josef Dodridge became the last Badger standing after winning a pair of matches to advance to the quarterfinals.
Dodridge, seeded 17th, picked up his first win in three-set fashion against No. 16 seed Matt Mendez of Ohio State, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. In the Round of 16, Dodridge drew two-time Horizon League Player of the Year Jeffrey Schorsch of Valparaiso. Dodridge notched one of the biggest wins of his career, taking down the 7th-seeded Schorsch, 6-3, 6-3.
Dodridge continues play tomorrow where he faces the No. 2 seeded Strong Kirchheimer of Northwestern. Kirchheimer went 30-4 in the 2015 season and was first team all-Big Ten.
In the doubles bracket, Dodridge and fellow junior Chema Carranza also advanced, moving onto the round of 16 with a win over Youngstown State's Matt Kritzinger and Luke Purser. The duo continued on to play Michigan's Jonathan Malik and Kevin Wong but lost in a close contest, 8-6.
Freshman Chase Colton and junior captain Lamar Remy also moved on to the round of 16, dominating Erich Schuette and Carlos Manzanas of Northern Illinois, 8-2. Colton and Remy advanced yet again, this time against Daniel Langston and Brandon Ancona of Valpraiso, 8-6.
