MADISON, Wis. – The main draw of the ITA Midwest Regional began on Friday and the Badgers enjoyed a strong opening round as five players advanced in the main draw and four doubles teams advanced.
" Today was a mostly positive day as several guys pulled through some tough matches," head coach Danny Westerman said. "To have five guys still alive in the Rd of 32 is pretty solid."
The Badgers continued their efforts in the fall season at the ITA Midwest Regional Championship in Columbus, Ohio, notching a 7-3 record in singles and a 4-1 doubles record.
Senior John Zordani, who played his way into the main draw with three wins in the qualifying bracket, notched yet another win to stay alive in the singles main draw. He will be joined in Saturday's round of 32 by juniors Lamar Remy, Chema Carranza and Josef Dodridge, as well as sophomore Osgar O'Hoisin.
"I was especially pleased with Zordani getting through his main draw match after winning three qualifying matches, including a three set win this morning," Westerman continued. "Our freshman both lost their matches and I know this experience will only make them better. We are excited to compete tomorrow against some of the region's best."
Play continues Saturday at the Varsity Tennis Center and the Racquet Club of Columbus.
