Wisconsin Postgame Quotes
Wisconsin vs. Indiana
November 1, 2015
UW Field House – Madison, Wis.
Head Coach Kelly Sheffield
On what he thought of the match:"I thought we hesitated a lot defensively early on. I thought we hesitated a lot in serve-receive early on. Those weren't things that I think we should be doing in November. I would say that's on the negative side.
"I thought Haleigh (Nelson) responded after a cream-puff start to the match. I thought she started flexing her muscles a little bit there toward the end, so that was good to see out of a junior captain. Overall, I thought it was a solid performance."
Haleigh Nelson
On if today's match was different from the high-energy matches the team has played lately:"I felt like the energy was the same. Obviously they're (Indiana) not at the top of the Big Ten like some of the teams we've seen the past couple matches. But they put up a great fight just like every other Big Ten team. We came in ready to take care of business, but still had a great time out there. I didn't feel like the enthusiasm dropped at all. It wasn't just business. We came out ready to work and it showed."
On the fair number of balls the middle blockers got to hit today:"I kind of just changed my mentality after the first set and was ready to go after it, so that was me. I don't know if the defense changed much. I just focused on myself."
On changing her mentality after the first set: "I just had a couple mental errors in the first set and I wasn't coming out swinging hard like I should have and Kelly let me know that right before the second set. I went out ready to go and I wasn't going to let anything phase me. I was going to be there for my teammates and put more energy into them and focus more on the good and the winning and it made the match better."
On if it feels like time is flying by this season: "The season definitely feels like it's flying by. I can't even believe that the Big Ten is almost more than half way over. It seems like just yesterday we were getting started in preseason, so it's just kind of crazy how fast the time flies."
On the team blocking well today: "We try to put a lot of pressure on them with our serve, because that just makes everything a lot easier. That's kind of something we're working on for the rest of the season. That's our main goal... if we have a facet of the game that we have to get better at, that's what we're deciding we're going to focus most on. I think that makes it a lot easier for everyone else to be efficient when we can set up a really solid defense against their attack."
Tionna Williams
On the fair number of balls the middle blockers got to hit today:"Being able to have that many swings in this match is really credited to our passers, to able to run a system very well. They opened up a lot of stuff for us."
On what she credits her quick start with five blocks to:"Being able to have that many blocks I think is a result from our serves which help us read really well. The whole system was set up pretty well."
On if it makes them more confident knowing they have some of the best blockers in the Big Ten:"Yeah, definitely. If I personally mess up, then my whole team has my back and I can bounce back quickly. We're just handling business and competing really well."
On the slow start in the second set:"I felt like starting out in the second set, we had a couple mental errors. Then towards the middle, we started picking it up and communicating more, so things picked up from there."
