 | Position: Learning Specialist

Denise Kalscheur joined the UW Athletic Department as a Learning Specialist in the fall of 2006 after completing 30 years as a public school teacher. Denise provides academic support for student-athletes in football, women's cross country, track, soccer, and softball.
Denise's educational background includes a B.S. in Elementary Education from UW- Madison, an M.S. in Literacy from UW-Whitewater, and Certification in Educational Administration from UW-Madison. This background has provided her with the opportunity to teach middle and high school students in Janesville and Madison, Wisconsin as well as Richfield, Minnesota. In addition, she has been a reading consultant, a presenter at the state and international reading conferences, a member of First Lady Jessica Doyle's literacy committee, and a nominee for the Crystal Apple Award in 2004.
Reading and the opportunity to learn have been a passion throughout Denise's life. This passion has resulted in continued interest and efforts to help others gain an equal opportunity to learn and share the joy of a book well-read.
Denise and her husband, Tim, reside in Madison.
