MADISON, Wis. -- A special ceremony was held on Saturday night to recognize those student-athletes that are set to take part in upcoming graduation ceremonies.
The 2010 Student-Athlete Graduation Reception was held in Heritage Hall to recognize those student-athletes that are set to graduate in the upcoming year. Special red stoles were distributed at the end of the evening which are to be worn when the student-athletes receive their diplomas.
The evening began with Director of the Office of Academic Services Doug Tiedt giving opening remarks, including a reciting of a portion of Dr. Seuss' "Oh, the Places You'll Go!"
Tiedt's remarks were then followed by a speech from Sara Goff, a former women's swimmer who also served as president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Goff gave advice to her fellow graduates that they can carry with them in their future endeavors.
In addition, Goff spoke of things she learned during her time at Wisconsin. Among them, she jokingly said that one should avoid sitting between two football linemen in a class in an auditorium and that one shouldn't get into a snowball fight with a softball player.
Graduation ceremonies are set to take place at the Kohl Center Sunday at both 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
