Its something you cant buy in stores and has more personal value than monetary value. Only a small percentage of students on the University of Wisconsin campus have the honor of wearing them and Monday night, more than 70 students added the jacket to their wardrobe. This jacket is the UW letter jacket, which is given to Badger student-athletes after they achieve their first letter in their respective sports.
The National W Club honored these student-athletes Monday night with the fall Letter Jacket Presentation. Student-athletes who achieved their first letter in nine different summer and fall sports were honored with a ceremony and received their cardinal jacket with the leather sleeves and large W stitched on the front.
Student-athletes from mens and womens crew, mens and womens cross country, mens and womens soccer, mens and womens track and field and the volleyball teams were in attendance at the ceremony in Heritage Hall. Executive associate athletic director Shawn Eichorst opened the ceremony and executive director of the National W Club, Terry Murawski gave a brief speech explaining the significance of the National W Club after student-athletes graduate. President of the National W Club, and former UW football All-American, Matt VandenBoom then spoke to the student-athletes about how the National W Club has benefited him over the years as a former student-athlete.
Those in attendance then were presented with a letter jacket by their respective coaches. A short film, which can be seen by clicking mid=2813"> --> here , concluded the ceremony.
