MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin Athletic Department’s 12th Annual Student-Athlete Thank-a-Thon was held December 5-8 at Camp Randall Stadium and the Kohl Center.
Over 340 student-athletes volunteered their time to write letters to more than 4,000 randomly selected donors nationwide to thank them for their financial support of Wisconsin Athletics. Last year, Badger student-athletes completed more than 1,500 hours of community service and outreach including events like the Thank-a-Thon.
“I am really proud of our student-athletes for volunteering and embracing this effort each year. I am also pleased to see our coaches placing an emphasis on participating.” athletic director Barry Alvarez said. “The Thank-a-Thon is an important part of our program and offers a chance for our student-athletes to reach out and thank those donors who contribute to UW Athletics to help fund expenses such as scholarships, facilities, equipment, and travel.”
The UW Athletic Department is self-sustaining and relies heavily on private gifts, as well as other external revenue sources, to meet its annual funding needs.
Contributions to Wisconsin Athletics are used to fund the scholarship and facility needs for over 800 Badger student-athletes.
