MADISON, Wis.--Three UW softball players got an early taste of the holiday spirit on December 2 when they helped local underprivileged youth shop for gifts in conjunction with the Shop With A Cop event.

Shop for a Cop is an event organized by law enforcement offices throughout Dane County. Through the help of local sponsors, children are given $150.00 to purchase holiday gifts for themselves and their families. Children are selected to participate in the program based on nominations from teachers and other community personnel.

UW student-athletes were invited to participate in the program by the UW Police Department. Maggie Strange, Kelsey Kleist and Whitney Massey were selected to attend the event and helped a local fourth grader select Christmas presents for herself and her family.

"Giving back to the community and being a part of a child's Christmas shopping trip was truly a one-of-a-kind experience," said Strange. "Her smile said it all."
