2010 Golfweek's Best Campus Courses list
Madison, Wis. - Wisconsin's University Ridge Golf Course was ranked the sixth best campus course in the 2010 Golfweek rankings of Best Campus Courses. The Course at Yale took top honors followed by Williams College, Washington State, Texas Tech and Stanford.
UW's course was the top course among the Big Ten Conference schools which also had the most courses of any conference on the list. Ohio State's Scarlet Course was ninth; Michigan was 12th; the Kampen Course at Purdue was 17th, and Finkbine Golf Course at Iowa was 25th.
Golfweek’s Best Campus Courses list includes 30 courses in 22 states. The list includes private schools and large state universities as well as the service academies.
North Carolina's Research Triangle had the highest concentration of collegiate courses in the same area starting with the course at Duke which ranked No. 10. N.C. State was No. 22 and UNC was No. 24. Two service academies were also ranked with the Air Force Academy at No. 20 and the Naval Academy at No. 26.
Courses considered by Golfweek for the Best Campus Courses list need to provide preferential access for students, faculty and alumni. Students receive a price break at University Ridge. It was mentioned in the article that Oklahoma State’s Karsten Creek would have been considered among the top 30 but it is operated as an upscale daily-fee course with no preferences for access. Karsten Creek will host the 2011 NCAA Division I Men’s Championship in June.
