MADISON, Wis. - Take head injuries seriously or risk serious and permanent brain damage. UW sports medicine physicians and staff want to be sure all athletes get that message.

And to get that message out, UW sports medicine physicians are making head injury management the first in a regular feature on the UWBadgers.com sports medicine training tips page.

"A concussion is an injury to the brain that not only can cause headaches or dizziness but also may result in long-lasting thinking problems," says Dr. David Bernhardt, UW Health Sports Medicine physician and team physician for UW Athletics.

Bernhardt explains more about concussions and their dangers in a short video feature on the new health tips Web page.

Visit UWBadgers.com/uwhealth/ to see how team physicians are working with the Badger program and high school athletes on head injury management. Check back frequently for more sports medicine training tips.
