MADISON, Wis. -- To show appreciation to all new donors who have chosen to support Wisconsin Athletics in 2012, their names have been entered into a drawing to win Badger memorabilia.

Three winners are drawn the Friday before every home football game. The following winners will be awarded for the first half of the season. In addition, one donor's story on why he supports Wisconsin Athletics is highlighted.

Donor Story: Brett Kage
My name is Brett Kage and I am a proud supporter of UW Athletics. How did I become a Badger fan and now supporter of the Badgers you ask? When I was in the fourth grade my dad took me to the 1999 Rose Bowl.

Before the game my dad and I were at a tailgate party just outside of the stadium where we were enjoying great food and pregame entertainment. All of the sudden I saw Bucky Badger! He was walking my way and sure enough he had stopped by us to mess up my hair, and take a picture with me.

From that point on, I thought Bucky was the greatest thing in the world and I was addicted to Badger sports. After returning from the Rose Bowl I told my parents that someday I wanted to be Bucky Badger. They thought of course that my dream was "cute" and never actually thought I would strive to fulfill that crazy dream of becoming Bucky Badger.

Fast forward to 2008, where I was a sophomore in college attending Ferris State University in Michigan. Knowing that I did not attend the University of Wisconsin Madison, I knew I would never fulfill my dream of being Bucky, but that did not stop me from becoming a mascot. I tried out for the Ferris State mascot and got the job!  That's right!  For the next 3 years I was Brutus the Bulldog!

So no, I never became Bucky Badger, however, Bucky had inspired me to become a mascot and student-athlete. That's right, college mascots are student-athletes too!  By actually becoming a student-athlete I have experienced firsthand and seen why it is so important for fans to support their favorite team's student-athletes.

Any size contribution can go a long way. Our Badger student-athletes make many sacrifices throughout the academic year. That's why I am a proud supporter of UW Athletics and encourage all Badger fans to support UW Athletics so that we may all be able to enjoy the Badgers many great future successes!
