Madison, Wis. - Each year the UW Athletic Department faces the challenge of funding the scholarships of nearly 800 student-athletes in 23 varsity sports. Over 14,000 donors annually contribute to help meet those needs. Some of these generous donors have elected to establish endowments.
These endowments are the most effective and far-reaching gifts given to Wisconsin Athletics. Endowed funds annually provide the Athletic Department with over one million dollars to use toward the critically important areas of scholarship and operational expenses.
Earlier this month, the University of Wisconsin Athletic Department welcomed back to campus the many individuals and families who have made generous contributions to establish endowed funds and hosted the 11th Annual Endowment Donor Appreciation Luncheon at the Kohl Center.
This unique event provides the endowment donors the exclusive opportunity to meet with their student-athlete recipient of their scholarship. During the luncheon, attendees heard from Athletic Director Barry Alvarez, UW Foundation President Sandy Wilcox, endowment donor Tim Milecarek, and men's basketball student-athlete Jon Leuer.
The UW Athletic Department extends a grateful appreciation to these individuals and families for their impactful investment in the long-term academic and athletic excellence of Wisconsin Athletics. Please review a listing of the over 160 endowed funds and their 2010-11 scholarship recipients, and enjoy a video of the 2010 endowment luncheon.
The success of Wisconsin Athletics and Badger student-athletes depends in great part on the collective loyalty and generosity of alumni, fans and friends.
