MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
This week: The No. 1-ranked Badgers head to Long Island to compete in the Stony Brook Invitational at 9:15 a.m. Saturday.

Last week: Wisconsin opened its season last Friday with a win in the 6.3-kilometer Badger Opener at the Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, led by individual winner Alex Brill.

Need to know: Dating back to last year’s run to the NCAA championship, Wisconsin has claimed the team title in each of its last seven meets. The last time the Badgers failed to win a meet was when they scored a runner-up finish with a limited roster at the 2011 Badger Opener.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
This week: The No. 29-ranked Badgers will send a limited number of athletes on a short drive south to compete in the Warhawk Invitational in Whitewater, Wis.

Last week: UW opened the season with a perfect score en route to the team title at the 5-kilometer Badger Opener on Friday, sweeping places 2-6 at the Zimmer Championship Course. Former Badger Caitlin Comfort won the individual title as an unattached entry.

Need to know: UW freshman Emma-Lisa Murphy was the top collegiate finisher at the Badger Opener, competing in her first-ever race. She scored a second-place finish in 17 minutes, 54 seconds.

FOOTBALL (1-1)
This week: No. 22 Wisconsin returns to Camp Randall Stadium to host Utah State in a primetime game Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. live on BTN.

Last week: The Badgers saw their 33-game regular-season non-conference win streak snapped in a 10-7 loss to Oregon State on Saturday.

Need to know: Wisconsin is 5-2 in home games following a loss on the road under head coach Bret Bielema.

WOMEN’S GOLF
This week: The Badger women's golf team continues play at the Cougar Classic hosted by the University of Charleston in Charleston, S.C. 

Good to know: The Badgers return four regulars to the 2012-13 season including senior Lindsay Danielson who led the team in scoring last year with 75.90 strokes for game.

MEN'S GOLF
This week: The Badgers open the season Sept. 15-16 at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Zionsville, Ind.

Good to know: Wisconsin returns a veteran lineup led by senior Anthony Aicher who was the top scorer for UW last season averaging 75.35 strokes per round.

WOMEN’S ROWING
This week: The women’s rowing team opens its fall schedule with a trip to the Milwaukee River Challenge on Saturday, Sept. 15.

Last time out: The Badgers capped off the 2011-12 season with an 11th-place team finish at the NCAA championships.

Need to know: Between the openweight and lightweight crews, the Badgers had six boats competing in both the open eight and open four races at last year’s Milwaukee River Challenge. Wisconsin claimed the top-five spots and seventh place in both races.

WOMEN’S LIGHTWEIGHT ROWING
This week: The women’s lightweight rowing team opens its fall schedule with a trip to the Milwaukee River Challenge on Saturday, Sept. 15.

Last time out: The Badgers capped off the 2011-12 season winning the varsity four and placing fourth in the varsity eight at the 2012 IRA National Championships.

Need to know: Between the openweight and lightweight crews, the Badgers had six boats competing in both the open eight and open four races at last year’s Milwaukee River Challenge. Wisconsin claimed the top-five spots and seventh place in both races.

MEN’S SOCCER (1-2-2)
This week: The men’s soccer team plays in the Chicago South Loop Hotel UIC Soccer Classic this weekend. The Badgers take on Western Illinois on Friday at 5 p.m., before playing against IUPUI on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Last week: The Badgers struggled on defense in their home opener against FIU last Friday night, Sept. 7, losing to the Panthers, 3-1. Playing in a different formation on Sunday, Sept. 9, Wisconsin bounced back against No. 13 Georgetown, playing the Hoyas to a 1-1 tie. UW scored the first goal of the game against Georgetown, but the Hoyas equalized after scoring off a rebounded save from a penalty kick.

Need to know: Both Badger goals over the weekend were scored by the Wisconsin defense. AJ Cochran scored a header off a corner kick against FIU on Friday and Paul Yonga scored off a loose ball in the 18-yard box after a corner kick.

WOMEN’S SOCCER (5-1-0)
This Week: The No. 15 Badgers (5-1-0) conclude the nonconference portion of their 2012 schedule with a match against UW-Milwaukee at Engelmann Field on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. (CT). Wisconsin will then take to the road for its first Big Ten match of the season, when it visits University Park, Pa., to take on Penn State on Sunday, Sept. 16. The contest is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. (CT) and will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.

Last Week: It took two extra periods, but the Badgers were able to overcome the Illinois State Redbirds, 3-2, in UW’s final nonconference home match of 2012. Sophomore Cara Walls netted the game-winner in the 103rd minute to seal the win, tallying her second score of the afternoon.

Need to Know: The Badgers are 5-1-0 for the second consecutive season.

VOLLEYBALL (8-1)
This Week: The Badgers (8-1) wrap up the non-conference season on Friday and Saturday, traveling to Statesboro, Ga., for the Georgia Southern Invitational. Wisconsin will take on Savannah State (0-12), Georgia Southern (6-4), Jacksonville (1-8) and South Alabama (5-5).

Last Week: Wisconsin won the 21st annual InnTowner Invitational last weekend in the UW Field House. The Badgers swept Drake, North Dakota State and Milwaukee to win its 16th invitational title.

Need to Know: Two Badgers could earn career milestones this weekend at the Georgia Southern Invitational.

Head coach Pete Waite needs four more wins for career win No. 300 at Wisconsin. Waite is 296-132 in his 14th season at UW and 562-234 in his 25th season overall.

Junior Annemarie Hickey has 950 digs in her career and needs just 50 digs to become the 12th UW player to tally 1,000 digs in a career.
