MADISON, Wis. – Two days before fall classes started, new University of Wisconsin student-athletes were welcomed to campus in an orientation at the Nicholas-Johnson Pavilion which was organized by Academic Services.
The approximately 200 student-athletes were provided an introduction to the campus and athletic department. The orientation also presented curriculum set forth by the Life Skills Academy, which included a panel of campus professors providing insights on successful student habits.
A session of small groups led by returning student-athletes gave the newcomers a chance to learn the essential need-to-knows about how succeed as both a student and an athlete. Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez spoke and gave a Power Point presentation on what it means to be a UW Badger.
Following the orientation, Academic Services served lunch and held a discussion about one thing each student-athlete took away from the program.
