Nine to join UW Athletics Hall of Fame



The University of Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame will have nine new members later this month.

The former Badgers will be inducted into the schools athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, Aug. 29, in front of the Shell, just outside the southeast corner of Camp Randall Stadium. A reception will start at 5:30 p.m., followed by the induction ceremony at 6:30 p.m.

The nine individuals being inducted (with years lettered) are:

Milo Lubratovich (deceased) - Football 1928, '29, '30
(Consensus All-America left tackle in 1930 who went on to play for Brooklyn Dodgers from 1931-35)

Sidney Williams - Football 1956, '57, '58
(First African-American starting quarterback in the modern Big Ten Conference directed UW to 13-4-1 record in his two years as a starter)

Craig Norwich - Hockey 1974, '75, '76, '77
(Two-time, first-team All-America defenseman whose 42 career goals remain a UW record for defensemen)

Rick Olson - Basketball 1983, '84, '85, '86
(Started all 112 games during his career and is still UWs career free throw percentage leader (.870).

Megan Scott - Basketball 1983, '84 / Track 1984 / Volleyball 1983, '84
(UWs only three-sport female letterwinner and the first Badger to letter in three sports since Pat Richter in 1962-63)

Troy Vincent - Football 1988, '89, '90, '91
(A 1991 first-team All-America defensive back who went on to a successful 15-year career in the NFL A five-time NFL All-Pro)

Otto Breitenbach (deceased) - Football 1942 / Associate Athletic Director 1973-88
(A member of UWs famed 1942 football team, who later became a longtime and well-respected coach and athletic administrator at the high school and collegiate levels)

Tom Wiesner (deceased) - Boxing 1958, '59, '60 / Football 1958, '59, '60 / Badger Desert Classic 1991-present
(Captained UWs 1959 Big Ten football championship team and later initiated the Badger Desert Golf Classic fundraiser, as well as playing a significant role in the popular football series between UNLV and Wisconsin)

Palmer "Butch" Strickler - Basketball 1946 / Butch's Bologna Bash 1974-2002
(A longtime supporter of UW Athletics, he started the famous Butchs Bologna Bash in 1974 that raised more than $3 million during its 28-year existence fully endowed a scholarship for $250,000)
