Today's look back features Carly Piper from womens women's swimming. A letter winner at Wisconsin from 2002-04, she participated in the 2004 Olympics in Athens earning a gold medal. This past week she just missed qualifying for Beijing placing 24th in the 200 freestyle at the Olympic trials in Omaha.
This 2006 graduate was not only a member of the gold medal 4x200 meter freestyle relay, but her relay also set the world record in the event. She was joined at the 2004 Games by UW-Madison teammate Adam Mania who represented Team Poland.
At UW-Madison, Piper twice won the Big Ten Conference swimmer of the year award. She earned 18 All-American honors throughout her undergraduate career, six in 2005 alone. This Michigan native has been named to a UW-record five National teams, including one for the 2004 Olympic Games. Piper participated in the Pan American Games in 2003 and the World Championships in 2005.
