MADISON, Wis. -- Some are embarrassed by the title of "Legend," while others embrace it. Whichever the reaction, the label for the Wisconsin alums participating in the annual Legends of Wisconsin Golf Classic cannot be denied.
"A legend is a person whose fame or notoriety makes him a source of romanticized tales or exploits."
Let's see... a Heisman trophy winner, the hero from one of the biggest wins in UW football history, stars of NCAA and NHL championship hockey teams, a record-setting basketball scorer and one of most the most decorated Olympians in UW history.
Yep, those are "Legends."
A number of celebrated Wisconsin alums descended on Madison Monday to take part in the ninth annual Legends of Wisconsin Classic. Hosted by two-time U.S. Open champion, Andy North, and held at University Ridge Golf Course, more than 115 golfers participated, including former Badgers, current UW coaches and staff and donors to Wisconsin Athletics at the Hall of Fame and Champion's Club giving levels.
Among the Badger Legends in attendance were Adam Burish, Lee Evans, Joe Thomas, Danny Jones, Chris Chambers, Al Toon, Suzy Favor-Hamilton and Ron Dayne. The list goes on.
Donors to Wisconsin Athletics support the educational and facility needs of over 800 student-athletes that compete in 23 varsity sports. In addition to making a remarkable difference in the lives of those Badger student-athletes, donors are offered a variety of benefits based on their annual giving level.
