MADISON, Wis. -- The women’s athletics program at the University of Wisconsin tied for 16th in the final 2013-2014 Capital One Cup standings. The Badgers were led by a second-place finish in volleyball and a third-place finish by women’s hockey to score 46 points. Wisconsin improved 60 spots from its 2012-13 standings after tying for 86th with one point.

The Capital One Cup trophy is awarded to the best men’s and women’s NCAA Division I athletics programs in the country. Schools earn points based on their teams’ top-10 finishes in NCAA championships and in final official coaches’ polls across 20 women’s sports.

In addition to top-four finishes by volleyball and women’s hockey, swimming and diving finished 13th and openweight rowing was 16th at their respective NCAA championships. Softball and golf both advanced to NCAA regional play, while track and field tied for 43rd at the NCAA indoor championships.

Florida won the women’s Capital One Cup with 152 points, claiming national championships in gymnastics and softball. UCLA finished second with 110 points while Stanford took third with 106 points. Rounding out the top five were Maryland and Texas A&M, respectively. Penn State finished ninth as the top Big Ten Conference school in the women’s race.
