As part of its year-end look back, UW Athletics profiles 10 candidates this week leading up to the announcement of the 2012-13 Athlete of the Year awards this Friday. Today, we profile Athlete of the Year candidate Kris Yoo of the women's golf team.
MADISON, Wis. -- Junior Kris Yoo was the led the Badgers to just its second appearance at the NCAA Championships where the team finished 23rd.
She was the top UW finisher at the NCAA Regional, tying for 11th with 1-over par 72-80-65—217. Her 65 in the third round is a school 18-hole record, and was a course record at the University of Oklahoma's Jimmie Austin course. She earned second-team All-Big Ten honors, just the first Badger to earn all-conference honors since 2007. Her season scoring average of 74.97 ranks second all-time in program history.
Yoo's best tournament finish came at the BYU Entrada Classic where she shot a 1-over par 71-72-74--217 to finish runner-up in the individual standings. She led the Badgers in seven tournaments this season, and finished no lower than 16th place individually in eight of her last nine tournaments prior to the NCAA Championship. Her tie for 42nd place with a 75-74-73-77--299 in the NCAAs was the second best finish by a Badger in the national tournament. She was named the team MVP and was an Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
