Badgers land 107 on spring Academic All-Big Ten team

MADISON, Wis. -- With the 2012-13 academic year in the books, the Big Ten Conference released its list of spring and at-large sports student-athletes who have been named to the academic all-Conference team on Wednesday.

Among the more than 1,200 names recognized as academic all-conference honorees were 138 Wisconsin student-athletes. 

Women's golfer Kimberly Dinh and women's track and field student-athlete Dana Steffen led the Badgers in the classroom with cumulative 4.0 GPAs.

Women's rowing led Wisconsin with 21 student-athletes earning the honor, while the women's track and field team added 12 to the list.

The women's lightweight rowing squad placed 21 on the list and men's rowing saw nine named academic all-conference.

The men's hockey team had nine skaters honored while women's hockey saw eight honorees.

Softball (6), women's golf (6), men's golf (4), men's tennis (2) and women's tennis (1) round out the list of Wisconsin's honorees. 

A total of 1,249 spring and at-large sports student-athletes were named to the team. The list of honored student-athletes features 94 softball players, 138 women's rowers, 46 men's and 52 women's golfers, 47 men's and 46 women's tennis athletes, 182 men's and 241 women's track and field standouts and 146 men's (representing ice hockey and rowing) and 157 women's (representing ice hockey and lightweight rowing) at-large athletes.

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
