Madison, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin Athletic Department was recognized by the UW-Madison Dean of Students Office on May 17 when it received a Campus Partnership Award. The athletics program was nominated by Donna Freitag of the Center for Leadership and Involvement for its efforts in a number of events designed to connect student organizations on campus as well as individually recognize outstanding student achievement.
Among several initiatives held this past year, the UW Athletic Department hosted a "Student Organization Social at the Kohl" in February prior to a women's basketball game. Nearly 800 students participated in the pre-game function that featured food and beverages, student organization networking opportunities, entertainment, raffle prizes and free admission to the women's basketball game. Also, on several occasions, UW Athletics utilized Kohl Center suites to host students nominated by the Center for Leadership and Involvement for their outstanding achievements on campus.
"We are very honored to accept this award on behalf of the Athletic Department," said Kevin Kluender assistant athletic director for marketing. "We have found the Center for Leadership & Involvement and the Dean of Students Office share many of our goals. We were pleased with the success of this partnership this year and look forward to continuing to develop events and programming that serve students on campus."
The "Student Organization Social at the Kohl" was planned and executed by athletic marketing interns Ben Beckwith and Lisa Drossart, who were unable to attend the awards presentation.
