This Week in Badger Athletics: April 21-27

This Week:
The Badgers (27-15, 9-5) host Purdue (24-21-1, 11-4) in a three-game set at Goodman Diamond this weekend. UW and Purdue meet on Friday in a 4 p.m. contest, before meeting in a 1 p.m. tilt on Saturday and a noon game on Sunday. 

Last Week: Wisconsin extended its winning streak to 10 games with a sweep of Penn State last weekend. UW defeated PSU, 6-3 on Friday before taking a doubleheader on Saturday. 

Need to Know: The second annual #GetToGoodman game will take place on Sunday, as UW looks to break its single-game attendance record of 2,007 people. In addition, free ice cream will be available to fans in attendance while supplies last courtesy of Schoep’s Ice Cream.

This Week:
After a trip out to California last weekend, the No. 6 Badgers will divide and conquer again this weekend, as the throwers will travel to the Triton Invitational in San Diego, while a UW contingent will compete at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.  

Last Time Out: Austin Mudd clocked the nation’s fourth-fastest time in the 1500 meters at the Beach Invitational, while Reed Connor’s 5000 meters time of 13:39.34 at the Mt. SAC Relays is the sixth-fastest time in the nation this year. 

Need to Know: Freshman Ryan Davis picked up his first collegiate win, claiming victory in the 400 meters at the Beach Invitational.

This Week:
Wisconsin will split its forces again this weekend, sending a squad of distance athletes to the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, while the throwers will head to San Diego to take part in the Triton Invitational.  

Last Time Out: UW competed in three different meets last weekend in California, sending athletes to the Mt. SAC Relays, the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Beach Invitational. 

Need to Know: The Badgers have won 18 events at the Drake Relays, with their last win coming in 2000.

This Week:
The Badgers compete in the 54-hole Big Ten Women’s Golf Championship on the Pete Dye course in French Lick, Ind., on April 25-27. 

Last Week: UW finished 11th in a nationally ranked field at the Silverado Showdown in Napa, Calif. Leading the way for the Badgers was freshman Brooke Ferrell, who tied for 19th overall with 6-over par 72-77-73--222. It was the third time she led the Badgers this season. 

Need to Know: UW is the fourth-best team in the conference heading into the championships behind No. 12 Northwestern, No. 25 Ohio State, Michigan State is 31st and the Badgers are ranked 48th in the Golfweek Sagarin Rankings. In tournaments this year UW is 0-1 against Northwestern, and split with Ohio State. UW has not yet to face Michigan State. 

Good to Know:The Badgers were sixth in the conference meet a year ago led by junior Alexis Nelson who finished 12th with a 9 over par 225. Nelson is leading the Badgers this season in scoring with 74.30 strokes per round. Another senior, Kris Yoo, is averaging 74.84 per round. Live scoring can be found at Golfstat.com.  

This Week:
Wisconsin (9-15, 1-10) now looks ahead to the 2014 Big Ten Tournament, which begins on Thursday, April 24 in East Lansing, Mich. The 11th-seeded Badgers will take on No. 6 Michigan at 2 p.m. 

Last Week: The Badgers fell to No. 34 Northwestern, 7-0 on Friday before being defeated by No. 11 Illinois, 4-1 on Sunday.

Need to Know: Sophomore Oskar Wikberg is currently inactive with a sprained ankle.

This Week:
The Badgers prepare for the Big Ten Tournament in Evanston, Ill., on April 24. The 11th-seeded Badgers will take on No. 6 Minnesota at 2 p.m. 

Last Week: The Badgers dropped both matches to No. 13 Northwestern, 7-0, and to No. 43 Illinois, 5-2.

Need to Know: Sophomore Lauren Chypyha still holds her perfect record in No. 1 singles of 9-0 while teammates Anastasia Tripolskaya and Nova Patel hold a perfect record of 5-0 in doubles.

This Week:
The Badgers wrap up their spring season this weekend, traveling to Minneapolis for the Minnesota Spring Invitational on Saturday. Wisconsin will face Minnesota, Minnesota-Crookston and South Dakota in pool play. 

Last Week: UW improved to 2-0 in spring play with a 25-12, 25-17, 25-22 victory over Marquette April 16 in the UW Field House. Junior Ellen Chapman led the Badgers on offense with 11 kills.

Need to Know: The Badgers open the 2014 Big Ten Conference season with a home contest against reigning NCAA champion Penn State in a rematch of the 2013 NCAA Championship. Wisconsin fans will also get to see No. 7 Nebraska, No. 8 Purdue, No. 10 Minnesota, and No. 16 Illinois in the UW Field House. Other Big Ten foes coming to town are Ohio State, Michigan and Iowa while conference newcomers Rutgers and Maryland make their first trips to Madison.
