MADISON, Wis. -- Student-Athletes Equally Supporting Others (SAESO), together with UW Academic Services, hosted its annual Soul Food Night on Monday, Feb. 17. Soul Food Night has been hosted by SAESO since 2008 as a way to celebrate Black History Month.
This year’s Soul Food Night included performances from students from the First Wave Spoken Word and Hip Hop Learning Community. It also featured a buffet that included baked macaroni and cheese, blacked peas, fried chicken, okra, peach cobbler and sweet potato pie, along with numerous other items.
A DVD was played during dinner, highlighting historical figures within the black community both on the national and local level. A musical playlist chronicling the evolution of music within the African American community played as the soundtrack to the evening.
