MADISON, Wis. -- Besides missed class days and higher heating bills, the recent cold snap has set the Madison area back in another area -- blood donations.
Several scheduled blood drives in the region had to be canceled due to the freezing temperatures, something the UW Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hopes to compensate for by hosting its own Badger Blood Drive on Tuesday, Jan. 28. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Gate A of the Kohl Center.
Katherine Moy, a junior on the women’s rowing team, is one of many student-athletes attending this year’s upcoming drive and is optimistic about the event.
“I'm really excited for this upcoming blood drive,” she said. “It’s my hope that we can exceed our initial goal of 35 units to offset the loss from the cancelled drives.”
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hopes it can surpass this goal with the help from students on the UW campus. Students can schedule an appointment time online at redcrossblood.org or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (use sponsor code “SAAC”).
Although appointments are preferred, walk-ins are also welcome to stop in between classes. All participating donors will receive a “We Challenge U” t-shirt.
