Madison, Wis. - The UW Athletic Department continued the Athletic Luncheon Series today featuring women’s hockey head coach Mark Johnson. Guests in attendance also heard from women’s hockey team captain Megan Duggan and assistant captain Hilary Knight.
Coach Johnson spoke about his coaching philosophy along with and his experience skating as a Badger and as part of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey team. Johnson also spoke about the impact that a coach can make on a student-athlete’s life. “You are teaching them the right thing, so when they leave us, not only are they going to get a good degree but they are going to step into the world, wherever that may be, and they are going to be an asset. That is the most important thing we do as coaches” Johnson said.
Duggan and Knight provided insights on their experience as Badger student-athletes as well as their time spent during the 2010 Olympic Games with the U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team. Currently this season, Duggan leads the team in points and assists with Knight leading the team in goals. Both student-athletes rank in the national top 10 in points per game.
In addition to making a remarkable difference in the lives of Badger student-athletes, donors to Wisconsin Athletics are offered unique benefit opportunities, including invitations to special events like the Athletic Luncheon Series.
