Future Badger Karley Sylvester has been named one of 10 semifinalists for the 2011 Minnesota Ms. Hockey Award, which is presented annually to the top senior girls' high school hockey player in Minnesota, Let's Play Hockey newspaper announced.
Sylvester, a forward for Warroad High School, has 23 goals and 38 assists for 61 points through 21 games (as of Feb. 2) this season.
With six games remaining in the regular season, Wisconsin holds a 16-point lead in the WCHA standings. However, because wins are worth three points on the women's side of the WCHA, 18 points are still up for grabs and the Badgers have not clinched the WCHA regular season title.
When No. 1 Wisconsin (23-2-1, 17-2-1-1 WCHA) hosts No. 4 Minnesota (18-6-1, 13-6-1-1 WCHA) in this weekend's women's hockey series at the Kohl Center, several streaks will be on the line.
The Badgers enter the game on a 12-game unbeaten streak, boasting an 11-0-1 record in their last 12 outings. Meanwhile, the Gophers also bring an unbeaten streak to the Kohl Center; Minnesota is 8-0-1 in its last nine games.
Mandy Hansen chronicled all the action in No. 1 Wisconsin's 4-4 overtime tie with No. 6 Minnesota Duluth on Jan. 22, 2011 at AMSOIL Arena in Duluth, Minn. The Badgers picked up an extra point in the WCHA standings with a 2-1 shootout win.
