It seems odd to have the team home. There are a lot of Thanksgiving tournaments hosted around the nation. I remember when I traveled with the team, we were always in some fun place, usually a warm weather venue in the south or west. One year we went to St. Thoomas and the whole team went snorkeling. That was really fun.

However, the Badgers just returned home from a west coast swing last weekend. Wisconsin split on the road last weekend, falling at Gonzaga 62-53 on Friday before rebounding with a 52-44 win at Washington State on Sunday. UW's 2-1 start is the best under head coach Bobbie Kelsey.

The Badgers have two games this week. Wisconsin hosts Washington tonight  at 7 p.m. UW remains in town hosting Evansville (2-1) on Sunday at 2 p.m. Both games are in the Kohl Center.

UW's game vs. Washington is its second and final game as part in the Super Six Series, an annual showcase highlighting two squads from the Atlantic Coast, Big East, Big 12, Big Ten, Southeastern and Pacific-12 conferences competing against each other in early-season inter-conference matchups.

UW has won its last two games in the Kohl Center, dating back to last season. Wisconsin downed Illinois, 72-60, in its final home game of the 2011-12 season and opened the 2012-13 season with a 74-56 win over Milwaukee on Nov. 11.

Two seniors have led UW so far this season. Senior Tiera Stephen leads the Big Ten with 5.3 steals per game. The 5-7 guard has had at least four steals in all three games this season, including a career-best eight takeaways against Milwaukee on Nov. 11.

Senior Taylor Wurtz needs just 27 points for 1,000 in her career. She will become the 22nd Badger to score 1,000 points. She is second in scoring through three games averaging 13.7 points per game.

Although I am the home blogger for most home games, I did miss the last two and have not seen the Badgers play since their opening exhibition. But I can tell you, this is going to be an exciting team to watch this season. There is a lot of fresh young talent with six newcomers.

One of the top new comers is Nicole Bauman. The freshman is the first Miss Wisconsin Basketball to sign at UW since Lin Zastrow signed in 2007. The 5-7 guard from New Berlin Eisenhower High School was also named the Gatorade State Player of the Year. Bauman averaged 17 points, 5.2 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 3.1 steals per game as a senior. She is seeing increasing playing time with each game.

Another freshman has terrific credentials as a member of the Canadian Junior National team. Dakota Whyte has been a three-time member of the Canadian Junior National Team. The 5-8 guard was a member of the 2012 Canadian Junior National Team but had to withdraw for personal reasons. She was also a member of the Canadian team in 2010, competing in the Youth Olympic Games, and in 2011, competing in the 3-on-3 Youth World Championships.

One freshman has decided to transfer and informed Coach Kelsey two weeks ago. Makailah Dyer from Madison East will be leaving at the semester in hopes of finding another Division I school where she can have more playing time. We wish her well with her future team.
