It's the first big snow storm of the year....yes. FIRST. It was 50 degrees here yesterday. It was also my puppy's first snow storm. Take a look.

Wisconsin returns home for one game before taking the weekend off from competition. The Badgers host No. 15/23 Nebraska tonight. It is the first visit for the Cornhuskers as part of the Big Ten Conference. UW leads the series with a 5-0 record. The last meeting was won 74-64 in Madison on Nov. 29, 2000.

Wisconsin comes into the night on a high note having ended its six-game losing streak with a 70-67 win at Illinois on Sunday. The win was the first Big Ten victory by the Badgers this season and their first since defeating Saint Louis on Dec. 5.

Tonight's game starts a hard six-game stretch for the Badgers in which they faced five nationally ranked teams. It started on Dec. 23 with a 65-49 loss to No. 18/14 Green Bay followed by a 77-61 loss to No. 9/12 Ohio State on Dec. 30. The Badgers lost at home to No. 16/17 Penn State, 82-49, on Jan. 2 before falling at No. 18/22 Purdue, 63-52, on Jan. 5. Wisconsin won its only game against a non-ranked team with a 70-67 victory at Illinois on Sunday.

The Badgers scored 70 points at Illinois, its second-highest single-game point total of the season. Wisconsin tied its season high of 37 points in the first half against the Illini, Wisconsin shot a season-best 53.6 percent (30-of-56) from the field at Illinois. The 30 field goals made was a season high.
In their previous seven games, the Badgers were shooting just 35.7 percent from the field and averaging 51 points per game.

Wisconsin's schedule ranks as the 20th-hardest in the nation this season, according to the website RealTimeRPI.com, The Badgers have the second-hardest schedule in the Big Ten behind Illinois, which is ranked 15th.
The Big Ten has five other schools in the top 50--Iowa (27); Michigan (28); Purdue (38); Penn State (40); and Ohio State (48).

In individual play After scoring double figures in the first 14 games of the season, junior Taylor Wurtz failed to score at Purdue on Jan. 5. The 6-0 guard was 0-for-10 from the field, including 0-for-4 from 3-point range.
Wurtz got back on track at Illinois on Sunday, leading the Badgers with 19 points. Wurtz had scored in double figures the first 14 games this season, leading the Badgers with 15.3 points per game. The 6-0 guard scored 20-or-more points in two games, including a season-high 26 points vs. Montana State on Nov. 25 in the first round of the Colorado Omni Classic.

Anya Covington had a breakout weekend tying her career best with 19 points at Purdue on Jan. 5. The 6-2 post was 7-of-15 (46.7 percent) from the field and 5-of-5 from the line. She also pulled down six rebounds while dishing off two assists and blocking two shots.

The Badgers have been looking for another consistent scorer and Covington delivered. She was 16-of-30 (53.3 percent) from the field on the week, hitting two shots in the last 2:43 of play at Illinois to seal the win. Covington averaged 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 steals per game on the week.
On the season, Covington ranks second on the team with 8.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. She ranks second on the team, shooting 43.6 percent from the field.

One thing she did say was that reserve forward Cassie Rochel will NOT play tonight. Her nose was broken in the Purdue game Jan. 5, and she suffered a concussion so she has did not play at Illinois and will not play tonight. She was having a great game against Purdue when she was hit early in the second half. She had five points and eight rebounds in 17 minutes. We will miss her tonight.

For those of NOT watching the Badger men's game going on simultaneously at Purdue, the Badgers jumped out to a 22-4 lead, and are now ahead 30-19 with 4:44 left in the first half. The Badgers have only won once in West Lafayette. It is a very tough place to play.

Two years ago they swept their Big 12 conference posting a 32-0 record before losing the the conference tournament.
