DURHAM, N.C. -- Join Diane Nordstrom of the Wisconsin Athletic Communications office as she chronicles all of the action from this morning's match vs. Furman in the second round of the Duke Invitational. Match time is 11 a.m. CT from Cameron Indoor Stadium on the campus of Duke University.

The Badgers (1-0) opened the tournament on Friday with a 25-12, 25-20, 25-16 win over Charleston Southern. Furman (0-1) lost to 17th-ranked Duke 3-1 in last night's nightcap.

The Badgers (1-0) and Paladins (0-1) start play in about 40 minutes. Wisconsin is coming off a 3-0 win over Charleston Southern last night while Furman dropped a 3-1 decision to 17th-ranked Duke.

The Paladins were led last night by junior Chandler Ambrester, a 6-0 outside hitter, who had 16 kills. Senior Kelly Kirby, a 6-1 right-side hitter, added 10 kills and 12 digs. Furman hit .154 as a team vs. the Blue Devils and was outblocked 10-7.

For Wisconsin, 14 Badgers saw action (they missed Dominique on the boxscore!) as the Badgers went to their bench. Crystal Graff and Alexis Mitchell led Wisconsin with nine kills apiece. Here is a complete recap of last night's match so I don't have to write it all again!

Furman was 17-12 overall last season, finishing third in the south division of the Southern Conference. The Paladins return six starters, including preseason SoCon selection Kelly Kirby. Ambrester was a second-team all-conference selection last season.

I'm sure everyone is wondering how the Badgers are doing with Hurricane Irene bearing down on us. We have only had some rain and not too much wind but its supposed to get worse today. We lost power in our hotel last night for awhile but it was not hurricane related.

Our hotel got pretty full last night with refugees from the coast checking in. The hotel put letters under our doors last night, asking us to fill out bathtubs with water in case we lose power and that they also had glow sticks if the power does go out. We have tornadoes - they have hurricanes!

In this morning's first match, Duke swept Charleston Southern 25-15, 25-12, 25-9. Duke hit an impressive .513 as a team against the much shorter Lady Buccaneers.

Furman will be much more of a challenge for the Badgers than Charleston Southern was. The Paladins are much taller and more experienced and took the first set from Duke last night. Furman is picked to finish third in the SoCon again this season.

I saw the scouting report this morning and look for the Badgers to hit a lot of line shots against Furman. The coaches also went over some blocking schemes - the players were cheating a little to the middle when they were setting up yesterday.

Bailey Reshel and Crystal Graff led the Badgers with 10 kills apiece. Janelle Gabrielsen hit .389 to lead all hitters. Nellie had 23 assists while Courtney has 19 helpers.

My take on the match - the Badgers looked better than yesterday but struggled to adjust to Furman's defense. Blocking is still a struggle and still some confusion on the court as the team gets used to playing together. With only five hours until our next match, the Badgers need to get together quickly as they face the 17th-ranked Blue Devils tonight.
